Where does the name 'Xmas' come from?

Answered By Crissy Yarnell, Editor

The word Christmas can from the root word Christ. It is a celebration for Jesus Christ birth. It is a short term for Mass for Christ. Literally, it comes from Middle English Cristes Maesse meaning Christ festival. The word Mass is originally called festival.

It is celebrated during the 25th day of December, which is believed to be the birth of Jesus Christ. Many people around the world celebrate this special day as the commemoration of the savior's birth.
